Fire and Explosion Investigation

Aims and objectives

The aim of the Fire and Explosion Investigation Working Group is to share knowledge, exchange experiences, collect information, develop methods and give advice to working group members. The sphere of activities of the working group is field investigation, technical investigation and chemical analyses of a fire scene. The Working Group strives to ensure the quality of development of fire and explosion investigation.

The objectives of the working group that most influence its current activities are:

  • Share information on Ignitable liquid analysis through Collaborative tests.
  • Share information during meetings.
  • Support colleagues by providing education and training.
  • Promote and implement data exchange on specific problems in fire and explosion investigation.
  • Promote the development of professional standards.

FEIWG membership categories

  • Full Member
    Full membership of the FEIWG is open to representatives from ENFSI institutes which are active in the area of Forensic fire scene investigation or post-fire investigation. The director of the ENFSI institute may nominate one representative for membership.
  • Associate Member
    Representatives from other (non-ENFSI) government institutes which are active in the field of forensic fire investigations or post-fire investigations, can apply for Associate Membership. Associate Members do not have the right to vote.
  • Guest member
    Guests may be admitted to FEIWG meetings at the discretion of the chair (on a meeting by meeting basis). Applications for the attendance of Guests have to be done by the ENFSI institute of that country and shall be dealt with the chair at least two months prior to this meeting. The chair will decide on acceptance or rejection of Guests by simple majority. Guests admitted to FEIWG meetings have no voting rights.
